Windows 8 Screenshots

Here are some very belated screenshots of the CP of Windows 8. I noticed as I went to post that I neglected to get one of the lock screen. However, as I am on Ubuntu at the moment, suffice it to say that it is a photo, which you can choose, with your battery and wireless info overlayed in the corner. When you swipe up from the bottom, you see the log-on screen. I must say, I really like Windows 8, although I would not upgrade to it and if I got a new computer I would dual-boot Windows 7. One more interesting fact is that the taskbar and window glass color on the desktop change to match the background if you have a slide show theme.

Mary Jemison

Mary Jemison Statue

This is Mary Jemison, the “White Woman of the Genessee”. She lived in what is now Letchworth State Park, where this statue is located. As a young girl, her farm was raided by Indians. She was taken captive and ended up spending the rest of her life among several tribes. For more information, read one of these books or this website.

P. S. If you have a pair of red/blue 3D glasses, please let me know if this looks 3D.

Did You Wash Behind Your Ears?

Neon Toothbrush LightThe other day, while I was brushing my teeth, I thought about the study about how cleaning your mouth reduces your risk of disease, besides gum and teeth diseases. If that is really the case, it’s sad to think that people who otherwise take care of their bodies can still end up with heart disease or arthritis simply because they didn’t take the time to brush their teeth. The same point can be made about many different things: If you don’t take care of wounds you can get infected, If you don’t regularly bathe you can end up with skin problems, stay out in the sun too long without protection and you will get sunburned and possibly, down the road, skin cancer, etc. What’s worse is that many Christians make the same mistakes in their spiritual lives. All too often, we neglect something in our daily “hygiene”. Prayer, reading and meditating on the Bible, and other things are all necessary; stop doing one of them and you will be “overtaken in a fault” (believe me, I know it). It doesn’t matter what else you are doing and taking care of, if you don’t take care of everything something will go wrong. Other times, we get an “injury” or an “illness”. If we ignore these problems they will eventually catch up to us, even if we are healthy in every other area; Steve Jobs proved that. Proverbs 4:26 says “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.” Once you neglect part of your daily hygiene routine or get hurt or ill, your feet start going down a different path, away Jimmy Reading the Biblefrom the Great Physician. Please take a spiritual physical; if you don’t pass make an appointment with the Doctor.

Friday

Ah! Another Friday. That means CHOICE! This is the first time we’ve been able to go this month; it was good to see my clubber again. We had a good time and memorized and learned about Ps. 32:7: “Thou art my hiding place, thou shalt preserve me from trouble, thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.”

That’s not all! Friday was the Father and Son Night at our church. We heard a short message from Mr. Glu paralleling sports with the Christian life ( mainly teamwork, and coachableness {a new word!?}), had pizza and pop (what else? :)), and then played games.
